Gustav Mahler - Symphony N°5 - Adagietto (2)

As a comment for the future conductors of the Adagietto part in his Symphony N°5, Gustav Mahler wrote "sehr langsam", very slowly

Modern conductors followed this suggestion in their own personal ways, and as a matter of fact, the duration of the Adagietto in contemporary recordings varies from 9'33 to 11'55 minutes. Slower or faster, the Adagietto's mood may change from a deep melancholy to the restless waves of passion...

Whatever the conductor's choices are, the Adagietto still calls to my mind the silhouette of Tadzio vanishing in the light...

Let's listen to the Adagietto as performed by the Chicago Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Sir Georg Solti.... This version is  9'50 minutes long...
